I voted for Hillary in both the primary and the general. My heart was with Bernie, and I supported him, just did not see a path for him. BUT I knew, deep down, that Bernie, with his clear stand on issues, that he was singing the song America wanted to hear. I am not going to debate about Hillary’s candidacy, just my opinion that her being the wife of a former president was a huge ding against her, as were so many other issues. Not just her, but our corporate owned media, Comey...and we all know the million other things that happened.
Point is that who and what our Democratic Party is no longer is clearly branded in the public, mainly because we, unlike the GOP, have two very different Dems in the party now: Centrist Dems, and Progressive Dems. The Centrists have destroyed our party (if we were dealing with a moderate GOP perhaps the centrists would not have done the damage they have done, but that is NOT what has been happening).
The following editorial appeared in Santa Barbara, and it HITS HOME with what we have become as a Democratic Party, and where we need to go. www.edhat.com/…
When Carter lost the election to Reagan, the Democratic Party doubled down on thinking the country is right wing and the Democratic Party became even more right wing.
Bill Clinton "ended welfare as we know it" with nothing meaningful to replace it. He balanced the budget by cutting investment in science and technology. The Large Hadron Collider that made such news in Geneva was really supposed to have happened in the US until Clinton killed it. (It was already halfway built in Texas).
Obama continued the shrinking of government investment even further. Hundreds of billions to bail out Wall Street and nothing visionary for the future. A tiny "stimulus package" that only funded "shovel ready" projects. The country was ready for another Franklin Roosevelt. They got Herbert Hoover instead.
The GOP controlled house kept Obama from doing what he needed to do, and Obama also kept trying to compromise with the GOP, the end result being people do not feel like the economy has gotten better (just had that discussion with my hairdresser, and it was not pretty) even though it has!!! But it has NOT gotten better for millions, and that showed up on Tuesday.
And why do I feel this editorial is spot on? Because locally we had a very hard fought race between two Dems for Assembly, one very progressive, one “moderate” and guess who won? Even though he was outspent 2 to 1, he won and NO ONE NO ONE thought he could win. www.mercurynews.com/...
Read about Ash Kalra, read and see how we can become the progressive party we need to be, and WIN. Ash has NEVER backed away from his true progressive values, NEVER.
I am not going to try to “work” with or become more moderate, FUCK that. No, I am swinging to the left, and working against those Democrats who have destroyed this country by moving to the right. If we had stayed left we might not have Trump.
We have compromised our nation away, and put us all in grave danger. Today I wage war on the Democratic Party and say NO MORE. Either the party actually represents the people of this nation or get the fuck out of my way and we can all work to create a party that the people own.
So much more to day, but my soul hurts too much right now.
